What Is Center Bore and Why It’s Important When Buying Forged Wheels?

When selecting custom forged wheels, most buyers focus on size, offset, and PCD — but forget to check the center bore.
Yet this small hole at the back of the wheel is critical for safe fitment and driving comfort.

If the center bore is incorrect, even the best-looking wheel can cause vibration, loose fitment, and long-term wear on your hub or bolts. That’s why I always confirm this spec with clients before production.

What Is Center Bore?

The center bore is the hole in the middle of the wheel that fits over the hub of the vehicle.

  • It ensures the wheel is centered precisely on the axle
  • The size is measured in millimeters (e.g., 66.6mm, 73.1mm, etc.)
  • When a wheel is hub-centric, the center bore fits the hub perfectly

Why Does Center Bore Matter?

If the center bore is too small, the wheel won’t mount at all.
If it’s too large, the wheel might mount using only the lug bolts — but this creates serious issues:

  • Vibration at high speeds
  • Uneven load on studs
  • Loose fitment or even wheel failure

In forged wheel production, the center bore must match the vehicle exactly — there’s no room for approximation.

OEM Center Bore Sizes (Examples)

BrandCommon Center Bore Sizes
Mercedes-Benz66.6mm
BMW72.6mm
Audi / VW57.1mm / 66.6mm
Toyota60.1mm
Nissan66.1mm
Ford (some)63.4mm

Different models may vary, so always check your specific car’s hub measurement.

Hub-Centric vs Lug-Centric Wheels

  • Hub-Centric: Center bore fits the hub exactly. This is what we recommend and provide by default.
  • Lug-Centric: The wheel is centered only by tightening the bolts — not ideal for forged wheels or high-performance use.

At FLEXIFORGED, every wheel we make is hub-centric by design, meaning:

  • No plastic hub rings
  • No guesswork
  • Just direct fitment and smooth rotation

My Advice for B2B Buyers

If you’re ordering forged wheels for your shop, clients, or custom builds, always provide:

  • Car brand, model, and year
  • If possible, OEM wheel specs
  • Or just send me a photo of the wheel hub

I’ll make sure the center bore is machined to match your hub exactly, reducing customer complaints and returns due to vibration or mounting issues.

Final Thoughts

The center bore may look like a small detail — but it makes a big difference in how the wheel fits, performs, and lasts.
At FLEXIFORGED, we customize every wheel’s center bore based on your specific car, with CNC accuracy and 100% fitment guarantee.

Not sure about your center bore size? Just ask me. I’ll check it before we start production — so your wheels fit like they came from the factory.
