When ordering custom forged wheels, most buyers focus on size, color, or style — but often overlook one critical technical detail: PCD, or Pitch Circle Diameter.
It may sound minor, but it’s one of the first things I check before producing a forged wheel set.
A very common confusion arises between PCD 5×114.3 and 5×112. While they look almost the same to the eye, they are not interchangeable — and using the wrong one could lead to unsafe installations, vibration, or even wheel failure.
Why 5×114.3 and 5×112 Are Not the Same
Let’s break it down simply:
- 5×114.3 = 5 bolt holes placed on a 114.3mm diameter circle
- 5×112 = 5 bolt holes placed on a 112mm diameter circle
That 2.3mm difference may seem small, but it directly affects:
- The alignment of the bolts and studs
- The seating of the wheel on the hub
- The tension applied to each bolt during tightening
In short: if the PCD doesn’t match exactly, the wheel will never sit perfectly centered. That leads to:
- High-speed vibration
- Wheel loosening
- Damage to hub threads
- Risk of failure under load
Typical Brands Using Each PCD
PCD | Common Vehicle Brands |
---|---|
5×114.3 | Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Ford (some models) |
5×112 | Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, BMW (newer), Skoda |
If you drive a Mercedes or Audi, it’s likely 5×112.
If it’s a Japanese or Korean car, it’s likely 5×114.3.
But always confirm — I’ve seen many exceptions.
Can You Force It to Fit? No.
Some clients try to make 5×114.3 wheels fit 5×112 hubs, or vice versa, thinking it’s “close enough.”
I strongly advise against this.
Even if you can force the bolts in, the tension won’t be evenly distributed.
This creates stress cracks, loosening over time, and may void your insurance or certification.
Forged wheels are precision-machined, not adjustable post-production. Once drilled, the PCD is final.
How We Handle PCD at FLEXIFORGED
When you order from FLEXIFORGED, I always ask you to confirm:
- Your vehicle’s brand, model, and year
- If available, the original wheel specs
- Or just send a photo of your current setup — I’ll take it from there
Every forged wheel is CNC-drilled to match your exact OEM PCD — down to the millimeter.
Whether it’s 5×114.3, 5×112, 5×120, 6×139.7 or even custom 8-lug patterns — we drill once, and we drill right.
Final Thoughts
The PCD is one of the most essential parameters in forged wheel production.
It’s not just a number — it’s what determines whether your wheels will bolt on safely, smoothly, and legally.
If you’re not sure about your car’s PCD, no problem. Just tell me the car model, and I’ll confirm it for you before production.
Let’s avoid mistakes — and build wheels that fit perfectly from day one.
